At the Western Idaho Fair, fun food is an integral part of the experience. It’s a chance to try new things, have a good time, and indulge your tastebuds in what Cookie Monster might call a “sometimes food.” And no, it’s not all fried… but if it is, we guarantee it tastes pretty darn good. Here are some of the foods to look out for to get that classic Fair experience (and take your #ShareMyFair selfies with)!

  1. Elephant ears. Fried dough covered in sugar and cinnamon. This classic Fair food will have you craving more for days afterwards.
  2. Chocolate-covered pickles. If you thought fried pickles were good, try its chocolate-covered cousin for a trip down Amazing Alley.
  3. Bacon on a stick. It’s bacon, so it’s already pretty awesome. Putting it on a stick for easy transport is just common sense.
  4. Fresh-squeezed lemonade. On a hot day, there’s nothing better than a refreshing glass of lemonade, straight from the source. Not too sweet or tart; just traditional goodness.
  5. Pronto Pups. Don’t call it a corn dog; these dogs are covered in delicious pancake batter for a treat that’s half breakfast, half ballpark.
  6. Chorizo and croquettas. The Basque community has a presence at the Fair, too. Come celebrate our unique cultural mix in southern Idaho with chorizo, seasoned sausage, and croquettas, delicious deep fried balls of potato and cheese.

And that’s only the tip of the iceberg! Visit the Fair August 21-30 for all the foods you’re dying to try.

It’s opening day! Here’s what you need to know before storming the gates with your family and friends today.

  1. KBOI2 Day: Free admission from 12pm-2pm. Opening Day is also KBOI2 Day—which means two hours of free admission! So get in early and put that money to good use on a corn dog and a fried pickle for lunch.
  2. Antique Tractor Pull at 7:30pm in the Grandstand. Old-fashioned is never out of style at the antique tractor pull. Catch all the excitement tonight at the grandstand as these old-timers get all fired up and back into the action.
  3. Idaho Lottery Treasure Hunt. The Lottery’s giving away $1,000 tonight, but you can only be entered to win if you participate in the Treasure Hunt. Fun for the whole family—and a chance to win some serious cash!
  4. A Fair Taste of Idaho Beer and Wine Tasting. From 6-8pm, it’s fun for adults as the Fair brings you the best craft beer and local wines. $1 for a 3oz tasting, 6 for $5, or 13 for $10. Find the beer and wine for your next party here!

In addition to these, there’s a ton of fun to be had at the Fair, like great grounds acts, carnival rides and games, and family fun at the Ag Pavilion. So visit the Fair tonight and don’t forget to share with your friends on social media using #ShareMyFair!
